October 2, 2023 (Honolulu, HI) – Last month, the Pacific Island Vector Management Council (PIVMC) held its first in-person meeting since the pandemic during the Pacific Vector Control and Outbreak Response Training in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. The PIVMC is organized into three tiers: a board, members including U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Island (USAPI) vector management supervisors and staff, and partners from government agencies, academic institutions, and other non-governmental organizations. To address mosquito challenges in the USAPIs, the Council is crucial to implementing the endorsed Regional Vector Management Strategic Plan. The plan supports individual jurisdictionsʻ efforts to address the threats of vector-borne diseases and establish a coordinated regional approach to maintain capacities between outbreaks and prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
