February 25, 2026 (Koror, Palau) – The PIHOA Secretariat conducted an Early Warning System (EWS) Dengue Outbreak Readiness Workshop from December 8–12, 2025, in collaboration with Palau’s Ministry of Health and Human Services (MHHS), Division of Environmental Health (DEH).
The workshop operationalized Palau’s Dengue Case Management and Prevention Protocols into 14 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), established Palau-specific alert thresholds, and strengthened entomological and epidemiological analysis capacity. Participants reviewed historical outbreak data, defined response triggers, and clarified roles within an Incident Command System (ICS) framework to support coordinated dengue response.
Through a PIHOA donation, DEH staff also received hands-on training using the Airofog Thermal Fogger AT9 to enhance mosquito control operations in high-risk areas.
Chief Calvin Johanes, DEH, MHHS said,“This operation reinforces the importance of developing standards. Standards that will enable us to carry out our vector management plan and that need-to-know-how basis are followed on the same beats and tempos.”
PIHOA will continue working closely with Palau MHHS to strengthen dengue outbreak preparedness and implementation of the Early Warning System.
