January 9, 2026 (Honolulu, HI) – Public health professionals, clinicians, and partners from across the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands gathered in Honolulu on October 8–10, 2025, for the USAPI Maternal Health Summit, a first-of-its-kind regional convening focused on strengthening local Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) and advancing maternal health surveillance across jurisdictions.
Co-hosted by PIHOA and PIPCA, the summit brought together jurisdictional delegations and regional partners to share challenges, best practices, and priorities related to maternal mortality surveillance and review. Participants developed jurisdiction-specific action plans and identified shared regional needs, including improvements to vital statistics systems, data sharing processes, and clinician training.
The summit concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening maternal mortality review systems across the region to help prevent future avoidable maternal deaths.
