June 9, 2025 (Honolulu, HI) – From May 5-8, 2025, the Pacific Public Health Fellowship Program (PPHFP) Laboratory Fellows participated in the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) 2025 Annual Conference held in Portland, Oregon. The event offered a unique platform for the Fellows to engage with leaders in the field of public health laboratory science and gain firsthand exposure to cutting-edge diagnostic technologies, laboratory innovations, and global partnerships shaping the future of public health.

PPHFP Fellows representing American Samoa, Chuuk, and Yap, accompanied by Dr. Vasiti Uluiviti, PIHOA Regional Laboratory Coordinator and PPHFP mentor took part in technical sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities with public and private sector experts. These interactions helped to deepen their understanding of laboratory systems, strengthen regional capacity-building strategies, and expand their professional networks.

Participation in APHL’s annual convening highlighted the growing presence and contributions of the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPIs) in national laboratory conversations. It also reinforced PIHOA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the public health workforce and laboratory systems across the Pacific region.
